As President Donald Trump starts his second term in office, one of the over 200 executive orders he is planning to sign will include a revocation of the security clearances for 51 former and current intelligence officials who claimed that Hunter Biden’s laptop was “Russian disinformation.”
According to the New York Post, President Trump’s executive order will name all 51 individuals who signed an open letter in October of 2020 claiming that the revelations of Hunter Biden’s laptop, which included proof of his lucrative foreign business deals in exchange for access to his father Joe Biden, had “the classic earmarks” of “Russian disinformation.” The group has since come to be known as the “Spies Who Lie.”
The story of Hunter’s laptop was first broken by the New York Post, and was widely considered to be the October Surprise of the 2020 election. However, multiple social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter, forbid users from sharing the link to the original story, and it was later revealed that intelligence agencies actively worked to pressure such platforms into censoring the story.
Several years later, the laptop and all of its contents were determined by federal authorities to be genuine. Since then, many conservatives have called for some disciplinary action against the 51 intelligence officials who knowingly lied, including revoking their security clearances.
A lawyer representing seven of the letter’s signatories, Mark Zaid, issued a statement last year defending the conduct of the 51 individuals, saying that there “continues to be by many a calculated or woefully ignorant interpretation of the October 2020 letter.”
“It served as nothing more than a warning letter of what we have known for decades: certain foreign governments — including Russia — continue to try and actively interfere in our domestic affairs and our guard must remain vigilant,” Zaid added.
Some of the other 199 executive orders that President Trump plans to sign include, but are not limited to: Reinstating of the “Remain in Mexico” policy and “Catch and Release” policy dealing with illegal aliens; designating Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations; resuming construction of the southern border wall; withdrawing from the Paris Climate Accord; pausing all offshore wind leases; and a proclamation renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
